Smooth employee relations

Surprisingly, most employee relations go smoothly. We have clients who have been in business for many years without any serious problem. But then sometimes, “bang”, there is a major issue. We’ve had instances where an employer, in taking over another enterprise, has inherited someone who proved to be a troublemaker.
Less employment law?

The government has announced that statutory dispute procedures are to go. Not before time some would say. Well not before 2009 at the earliest, would be more accurate. So deeply embedded are these procedures that it is literally going to take an Act of Parliament to remove them.

Reference to legal advice is heard often and, curiously, Employment Tribunals seem unimpressed. Regrettably we cannot pass responsibility for our actions to our advisers. What counts is our understanding of how and why we made a particular decision.
Slaves or free men?

“It is easier to make slaves of free men than to make free men of slaves”! So states an ancient Arab proverb. It may be ancient, but there are parallels in emerging economies as the bonds of central control are loosened.
